My elaborate dream world

I just thought of how very detailed and vivid my nightly dreams are, as I started to write down all the detals I can remember from my latest. This must be one of the reasons I get so sucked into my dreams when I'm asleep. My dream world is so elaborate. I recognise things because I've been in the same imaginary places before. The details are remarkable, and I must say that my sense of locality is outstanding when I'm sleeping! Like that hotel in my latest dream.

The way the rooms smelled, how certain wood planks would creek and others not, how I walked passed the same rooms in that corridor, down the dark staircase to the cellar, and always found my way back there. How I passed the same rooms, but I saw it all from different angles, in different lights. How detailed the decaying walls and crackling wallpaper was. Brown with vertical lines in different girths and sad flowers. Lillies.

The skew painting hanging on one of the walls. It was of a thin, light wooden frame, picturing a ballerina doing a piruette in a dimmed room. And the thread it was hung on the wall with, how it looked, hanging on a bent, rusty nail. Two double beds were in that room, one for me and my sister, the other for our parents. Mine and my sisters was soft in some places, hard in others, and it creek a little on my side by the feet end. The sheets were pale, beige-ish with pink and light blue flowers. Heavy with moisture, dust and mold. My pillow was so disgusting it felt like resting my head on a pile of mud wrapped in cloth. Our parents bed had a howe right in the middle, I didn't know how it felt because I never sat or lied in it. It's sheet were brown with blue and purple flowers.

The door was so broken it was bent in half and could not be closed, so it slammed in the wind at night. It dripped from the ceiling in four places, two of those in that bedroom, one in the bathroom and one in the hall right outside our room. We only had one lamp in the ceiling that rocked back and forth all the time, cause the house was never still. When someone walked past the hall outside, the lamp shook so hard that me and my sister looked at it, afraid it was gonna fall to the floor, but it never did. It wasn't a naked lamp by the way, it had a shade, barrel-shaped, in a thin linen fabric with pegasus prints. It was held up with a brass frame about to fall down at any second.

I only saw that room one or two times, yet I remember it so clearly. I had a desk in there, I remember right now. It was made of dark wood, and very unstable, one of the legs was about to fall off, I had to fix it between my legs in order to keep the table from collapsing. A red plastic cup filled with pens: a blue ink pen, a black marker, a simple wooden pencil and a white mechanical pencil. I had an erasure and a bunch of semi-wet papers that I drew on. A tattered Barbie-doll stood on the table, leaned towards the cup with pencils. She had dark brown hair and wore a sparkling, red dress. A pin chair: dark brown with curved legs, also that one very unstable, with half the back support missing.

I remember a strong light coming from the bathroom that didn't have a door, and you could look straight at the toilet seat and see the wash basin from the side, right next to it. You could see into the kitchen as well, but there was no light in there and nothing worked there, so I never went in to that room. You couldn't see anything through the only window in the room, they had put up a thick plastic film with duct tape, probably to prevent further water damage.

This is what I can remember about just one of the many rooms I visited in that dream. Just add all the smells, the cold winds keeping you up at night, the creeking noises and voices from the other people living in the other rooms or apartments. The slamming of doors, porcelain breaking... All so very vivid and elaborate. So very realistic, not just the way it looked, but how everything was connected in that house. With the neighbours, the weather, depending on if it was day or night. Things didn't move around unexpectidly. No wonder it's hard for me to start lucid dreaming again!
