Insomnia (poem)

I just want to curl up
under my sheets and hide
I want to go to sleep
but it hurts too much inside

To be restored by tomorrow
a rest is all I need
but my mind just spins on
repeating every word and deed

My soft cool pillow
pressed against my face
my bedroom seems out of range
and being tired is a disgrace

The early morning hours
can't hold the dark for long
when the sun comes up
I no longer feel strong

I can barely keep my chin up
yet I can't close my eyes
so aware of this state
with so many failing tries
